Love Japanese Style Like We Do

Let a little luck and charm stroll into your space with this delightful black maneki neko (beckoning cat), lovingly handcrafted in the traditional kilns of Seto, Aichi Prefecture. Known as one of Japan’s revered “Six Ancient Kilns,” Seto has a centuries-old reputation for crafting these iconic feline figures - symbols of good fortune, protection, and prosperity.

This enchanting kitty is a nod to the Taisho Era (1912–1926), when black maneki neko were believed to ward off evil spirits. Crafted from thinly baked clay, the figure is light and airy, yet rich in detail. Painted a sleek black with golden facial features (check out those expressive eyebrows made from sweeping whiskers), this cat wears a vivid red bib adorned with golden flowers and a dainty bell around its neck. In Japanese folklore, a wide bib signifies the protection of one’s family, while the bell keeps misfortune at bay.

With its left paw raised in welcome, this lucky cat beckons wealth, good fortune, and meaningful connections into your life. Whether perched on a shelf among other antique treasures or gifted to someone in need of a little extra luck, this maneki neko is more than just decor - it’s a heartfelt symbol of hope and happiness.

Add a dash of tradition and a sprinkle of magic to your space. Order yours today and let the good fortune begin!

MANEKI NEKO
Maneki neko, or the beckoning cat, is a good luck charm that dates back to the Edo era. It was traditionally used by businesses to beckon in customers and money. A raised left paw beckons in customers and a raised right paw beckons in money and good fortune.

These days, not just businesses, but almost every Japanese household has a maneki neko for good luck. Sometimes both of the paws are raised! There are so many different kinds of maneki neko and they really make a wonderful collection item.
